What are numbers?
Numbers. What are they? We use them to count units of distinct or separate things. Numbers are divisions of the infinite, and the infinite is zero or the zero point field.
Numbers are magical. They are combined and split to make more or less. We add and subtract and divide and subject them to fantastic or amazing contortions or rearrangements.
Number systems have progressed from the use of fingers and tally marks, perhaps more than 40,000 years ago, to the use of sets of glyphs able to represent any conceivable number efficiently.
The earliest known writing for record keeping emerged from a system of accounting that used small clay tokens. The earliest artifacts claimed to be tokens are from Tell Abu Hureyra, a site in the Upper Euphrates valley in Syria dated to the 10th millennium BCE, and Ganj-i-Dareh Tepe, a site in the Zagros region of Iran dated to the 9th millennium BCE.
As early civilizations developed, they came up with different ways of writing down numbers. Many of these systems, including Greek, Egyptian and Hebrew numerals used a range of different symbols to represent larger values.
A positional system allows you to reuse the same symbols, by assigning the symbols different values based on their position in the sequence.
By the 7th Century, Indian mathematicians had perfected a decimal (or base ten) positional system, which could represent any number with only ten unique symbols. Over the next few centuries, Arab merchants, scholars and conquerors began to spread it into Europe.
A key breakthrough of this particular system (which was also independently developed by the Mayans) was the number 0. Older positional notation systems, which didn’t have 0, would leave a blank in its place, making it hard to distinguish between 63 and 603 or 12 and 120. Having and using 0 helps make writing down numbers clearer and easier for everyone to understand.
The origins of numerology
Numerology is the belief in an occult, divine or mystical relationship between a number and one or more coinciding events.
Numbers represent the creation story of matter manifesting from the infinite field or the zero-point field, also called God or Source.
Numbers carry energy or frequency because not only are they used to count money or other separate objects in some civilizations, but they are a reflection of and are used to work with nature and cycles.
Though there are undoubtedly connections from the numerology of today, way back to Ancient India (in the Vedas) and China (in the I Ching) it is widely accepted that the semi-legendary figure of Pythagoras is the true father of numerology.
Pythagoras lived in Ancient Greece around 550 BCE. He revered numbers so much that he consecrated a mystical school in their name, teaching about the reincarnation of the soul and instructing his pupils how numbers could reveal the beauty, harmony and order of the world.
One particular branch of numerology was called gematria. Popular from before the time of Christ, the practice involves dismantling words into their component letters and then using a pre-determined algorithm, associating those letters to numbers, all of which enables you to draw new meaning from the original words.
Renaissance scholars like Heinrich Agrippa von Nettesheim and the use of gematria in working with the Kabbalah also influenced modern day numerology. Kabbalah is an esoteric method, discipline and school of thought in Jewish mysticism.
Agrippa sketched out the basic principles and correspondences of each number, informing many of the number meanings we use to this day.
Unfolding over many centuries, and using representations such as the Tree of Life, Kabbalists held that all of life is a manifestation of the numbers 1 to 10.
Your Life Path Number
Numerology practices vary depending on the different types of numerology systems. However, in modern times common practice has largely settled on a set of five core numbers.
Numerology is sometimes referred to as arithmancy and also involves assigning a numerical value to letters. Each number has unique properties that provide insight into the vibratory frequencies of the world.
Numerology provides a basis for understanding how the universe exists as a numerical system.
The Pythagorean system of numerology is also referred to as Western numerology and is the most common system used. Single-digit numbers 1 to 9 and master numbers 11, 22, and 33 are the basis of Pythagorean numerology.
The core numbers in numerology are the most important numeric combinations. There are five core numbers that provide unique knowledge about a person’s personality, soul urges, talents, energy (life path), and expression or destiny. Below are the five core numbers in numerology.
Life Path Number: using a person’s date of birth. Describes the preferences and desires of a person which helps indicate the direction their life is heading. Also called the Destiny Number in Tamil Numerology.
Birthday Number: reducing the day of birth to a single digit. Shows a person’s likes, dislikes and hidden talents.
Expression Number: applying an alphanumeric value to a person’s full birth name. Identifies a person’s strengths and weaknesses and offers valuable insight into a person’s future. Also called the Destiny Number in Chaldean Numerology.
Soul Urge Number: adding numeric values of the vowels of a person’s name across or reducing the vowels in each name to add them together for a final number. Explains a person’s underlying motivations and helps to inspire them to grow in life. Reveals hidden or innermost longings.
Personality Number: adding numeric values of the consonants of someone’s full name across or reducing the consonants in each name to add them together for a final number. Reveals the personality or identity a person chooses to display to other people, as opposed to their subconscious identity. It’s about what you send out into the world.
The Life Path Number is called the Destiny Number in Tamil Numerology and is calculated using the same method as Pythagorean Numerology uses.
You can read more about the use of these numbers on the “The Coolist” site here. But I am focusing on the Life Path Number because it is based upon a person’s birthday.
At this page here are charts or tables showing numerical correspondences to letters using the Pythagorean and the Chaldean Numerology systems.
In both Western Astrology and Chinese Astrology a person’s birth date is essential to reading their charts.
I believe that a person’s “Life Path Number” is the defining or most significant energy that a person carries.
Your Life Path Number is calculated by adding up the single numbers of all the numbers making up your date of birth, but not reducing master numbers, which are 11, 22, 33 and other doubled digit numbers. This is the method that I prefer.
For example, I was born on 14th September 1963 represented as follows.
1 + 4 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 3
Add these together to get 33 which is a “master number.”
The internet usually mentions calculating the Life Path Number by separately adding up the numbers of the day, month, and year making up your birth date until you get single numbers.
So, for example, add 1+4 as the day I was born together to get 5. And add 1+9+6+3 comprising the year I was born to get 19 and add 1 to 9 to get 10 and reduce it to 1. So we have 5 and 1 so far and add it to 9 for my birthday month being September or the 9th month, totaling 15. Then reduce 15 by adding 5 to 1 to get 6.
Your Life Path number is said to represent who you are at your core — the person you are spending this lifetime learning to become.
In some ways the Life Path number in Numerology is like the Sun sign in Astrology: It is an indicator of what is important to you, how you act and react, and how you process life.
While each Life Path number carries a unique set of both positive and negative traits, how they manifest is up to you.
The choice you make and the consequences it brings will help guide you in your next decision and so on. Each experience or decision or choice is a lesson in how to become your highest and most authentic self.
Psychic Lilly gives good summaries about the energies of numbers 1 to 9 plus numbers 11 and 22 coming up as a Life Path Number. 😃
According to Psychic Lilly the expressions of Life Path Numbers embody the following. I have boldened parts that stand out to me. The descriptions below have been provided with permission from Psychic Lilly. 😃
Life Path 1
Those born with Life Path 1 are natural born leaders who seek independence and personal accomplishment. Many political and military leaders are on this path. These individuals are skilled at motivating and creatively inspiring others. Enthusiasm and initiation are among their strengths, and they usually overcome any obstacle in their way. Because of their strong drive to have it “their way,” they can lose sight of the needs and sensitivities of others. They need to be conscious of their potential to be overly selfish, demanding, and bossy. Number 1 men and women are energetic pioneers and hard workers. When they know what they want, they’ll make it happen!
Life Path 2
Life Path 2 people are the peacemakers, always seeking harmony. Motivated by relationships and relating, these individuals are generous and think the best of others. 2 is the ultimate team member — kind, fair, tactful, able to see both sides, and an exceptional listener. Their sensitivity is heightened, which makes them empathetic and, at times, overly emotional. 2 is a path of truth and learning. Their lives are centered around duality — while these individuals are open to the opinions and viewpoints of others, they can have a very difficult time making decisions. They need to remember that sometimes, they serve themselves and others best when they actively choose on their own behalf.
Life Path 3
Creative self-expression and communication are at the heart of Life Path 3. These people love to connect with others and get excited about life. Naturally charismatic and creative, with a passion for conversation, those with Life Path 3 are often writers, actors, musicians, artists, and poets. They have the tendency to take off in all directions, sometimes with little sense of purpose. Number 3 thrives on good conversation, actively sharing and listening. They are very aware of others’ feelings and in general put people at ease. Life Path 3 men and women can also be very moody, even withdrawing at certain times for no apparent reason. It’s helpful for them to ease up on their tendency to be impatient and critical.
Life Path 4
The builder, the entrepreneur, the one who makes it real…Life Path 4! These individuals were born to succeed and they’re willing to work hard for it. Organization, planning, and strategizing just get us going on the list of attributes. Intimately linked with the Earth element, Path 4 is the foundation of strength and dependability. Life Path 4 men and women are adept at facing difficulty and persevering. Many of the people we call “rocks” in our lives are 4s — they give us something to stand on. These people need to be careful of over-doing and pushing themselves and others too hard. Perhaps above all else, they know how to put the pieces together and, with patience, can literally build an empire.
Life Path 5
5 is the freedom seeker and progressive thinker! Trying to keep these people down is like trying to cage a wild animal. They need adventure — new things, people, places, and ideas. Living for today, Life Path 5 men and women take risks and push the envelope. And they’re not just concerned with their own freedom — they stand up for the welfare of others and humanity as a whole. Abraham Lincoln is a wonderful example of this Life Path energy and emancipation is a powerful word we can associate with all 5s. These individuals need flexibility and often find it hard to settle down and focus. If they’re not truly living their big adventure, they can look for drama in the world around them, sucking the life out of those closest to them.
Life Path 6
Life Path 6 is the most domestic of all life paths, and these individuals have strong parental instincts. Their focus is naturally on home, family, and community. They have a desire to rescue, mother, and nurture others. These people are learning about responsibility and with it, truth and justice. Many times, they’ll be called to pick up the burden — beyond their fair share. Path 6 men and women are sympathetic, loving, kind, generous, and filled with wisdom. They often take on an important role early in life, and it’s critical that they learn to tend to themselves as they take care of others. The fine line between helping and enabling will often be crossed and with it, they’ll be given the opportunity to gain awareness regarding true acts of service.
Life Path 7
Life Path 7 is very spiritual, and these people have a tendency to withdraw from daily life to pursue higher awareness and wisdom. Deep thinking, analysis, and research draw these people into the mysteries of knowledge, and they themselves can be quite secretive. Those with Life Path 7 are peaceful and affectionate, but it takes time for them to build trust. They easily pick up on deception and are not social creatures, to begin with. These individuals have amazing intuition and intellectual capacity. In learning to have faith, they may feel alone, and choosing companionship and connection is an important part of the journey.
Life Path 8
8 is the executive with far-reaching ideas and concepts. Focused on goals and earning respect, these people are most likely to be workaholics. Success and financial security are very important to Life Path 8. These individuals are tenacious, assertive, and driven. While they can be overly blunt and direct, they are deep feelers underneath. Fabulous judges of character, Path 8 people know just how to create a team of people who can achieve great things together. The leadership skills of the 8 are dynamic — inspirational, courageous, independent, organized, and ambitious. It’s extremely important for these individuals to make their own decisions and act on them. They need to be careful not to minimize or suppress the opinions and accomplishments of others. They are well-served by expressing their emotions.
Life Path 9
9 is the highest single-digit number reflecting increased responsibility toward humankind — the path of the humanitarian; of selfless giving and desire to make the world a better place. Those with this life path are honorable, generous, trustworthy, and willing to help others. With their magnetic presence, people are naturally drawn to them for leadership. Life Path 9 is a journey of completion which inherently implies spiritual consciousness. If these individuals pursue materialistic ends, they will always be dissatisfied. They do need to balance their giving to ensure their own needs are met, but true joy comes from the spirit and action of altruism. Path 9 people express emotion, often through visual art, literature, or theater. This path is not easy, and some will fight it. These people are burning through past karma, bringing old patterns to an end.
Life Path 11 (Master Number) — the Master Intuitive
11 has all the qualities of the 1 magnified. Life Path 11 is the most intuitive of all paths, able to pick up on things unseen or felt by others. These people can be of great assistance to others using their extremely accurate “gut sense”. Path 11 people are inspiring and charismatic visionaries, often acting as catalysts. This powerful energy is intense, and if not used constructively, can manifest as self-sabotage. Life Path 11 is the number of Faith, linked with psychics and seers. These individuals are learning to trust their instincts and inner voice, to come into their personal power and further their spiritual evolution. They need to focus on a specific, tangible goal, which will help them overcome anxiety and fear.
Life Path 22 (Master Number) — the Master Builder
22 is considered one of the most powerful numbers. With 22, the intuition of 11 combines with the magnified grounding and practicality of 4. These people are capable of greatness and have limitless opportunities. They are ambitious, disciplined, and confident big thinkers and leaders. Path 22 individuals are known as “Master Builders,” able to turn dreams into reality. While the potential for success is enormous, the realization of purpose can be slow, with fear of failure and overwhelm. These people benefit from taking the pressure off themselves. Not all 22 people are practical, and as always, with the greatest potential lies the chance of materializing nothing. It usually takes them time to mature into the fullest version of themselves.
Life Path 33 (Master Number) — the Master Teacher
Life Path 33 is very rare, and those with it are dedicated to reaching the world and uplifting humanity. This is altruism taken to a new level, and Path 33 expressed in its full potential has no personal agenda. 33 combines the vibration of 11 and 22 — known as the mover and shaker and “Master Teacher”. These people have high energy and can take on projects beyond any normal reach or definition. They want to raise the consciousness of as many people as possible and will devote themselves fully to this cause. Everything we know about intuition, dreams, compassion, faith, and vision seems small in the wake of a fully actualized Life Path 33. 33 is linked with the greatest and most significant spiritual leaders.
FAQ answered by Grace Mary Power

Aren’t birth dates just made up numbers?
The Gregorian calendar is in use by most nations of the world, replacing the Julian calendar, to allow for leap years. A calendar is a staple or important way of marking or measuring and working with seasons or with “time” as we know or call it.
Numbers have been used to refer to a cycle of seasons in a year and within that to refer to lunar cycles. The energetic existence of 1 12023 or 1st January 2023 is just as valid as a tool that you use. Like ingredients in a cake or a recipe, numbers are the “ingredients” of cycles of “time” and of dimensions of consciousness.
Astrologist, Lubomir, gives excellent details about the esoteric or little known nature of numbers. Numbers represent energy of different levels of consciousness and spirit manifestation.
For example, the number one symbolizes everything that exists in its potential form. It is represented as a circle with no beginning and no end.
The number two is symbolic of the creator dividing or splitting into two. This was the start of polarity or of opposites. Our entire human journeys are to explore a reconciliation of these polarities. Our missions are to resolve the “conflict of opposites” to co-create a world of loving, suffusing kindness.
Source or God is experiencing itself divided. Living beings are fractals or self-similar parts of Source in dense physical forms. We are here to experience creating oneness in physical matter bodies.
The introduction of a third element to the preceding two changes the picture completely, bringing the two polarized points into balance. Duality is the existence of different things in harmony, while polarity is the tension of different things in opposition and disharmony.
The number three represents synthesis, harmony, and equilibrium
Fascinatingly, numbers are also arranged in levels of spirit manifestation, e.g. numbers 2 and 3 are at Level 1 with number 1 (encompassing all) not being at any level. You can read about these at Lubomir’s website.
https://lubomir.name/numerology/levels
Level 1 (numbers 2 and 3) is the level of ideas. Level 2 involving numbers 4, 5, and 6 is the level of life-giving forces, and so forth, as Lubomir shows in a chart or table at the page above.
Simone Matthews in her “Numerology 2023” course says that a Soul, i.e. a spark of the Divine or of Source (God/the Creator) chooses the date of her or his birthday to bring in the frequencies or energy that resonate with the Life Path Number that the birthday translates to.
The numerology methods which calculate a Life Path Number by reducing the numbers of a birth date to a single digit, unless the totaled number of the birth date digits is 11, 22, 33, or 44, work with “root numbers.”
A root number or prime energy is a number from one to nine, taken from the “base ten” numbering system. This system uses the numbers one to nine and zero to represent any number. A root number or base number carries the underlying or prime frequency or vibration of a set of numbers.
What are Master Numbers?
A Master Number is a two-digit number of the same number repeating and mirroring itself. Its repetition and self-mirroring amplify the energies which it carries. Single-digit numbers 1 to 9 and master numbers 11, 22, and 33 are the basis of Pythagorean numerology.
Master Numbers contain layers upon layers of meanings. In addition to the energies of the repeated number they are made of, they contain the energies of the number they reduce to.
Traditionally, the numbers 11, 22, and 33 are Master Numbers, and they come with powerful positives and negatives.
Numbers 11, 22, and 33 are considered by some to be the only Master Numbers in numerology since these numbers are made up of 1, 2, and 3, respectively. These numbers make up the Triangle of Enlightenment.
As explained previously, the first 3 numbers represent Source or God dividing into two and adding a third element to balance or create an enlightened whole.
Together, these first 3 numbers are profound energies signifying the three phases of creation: envisioning, building, and sharing.
And being higher octaves of numbers 1, 2, and 3, number 11 is the visionary and creator, number 22 is the architect who builds the vision, and number 33 delivers it to the world.
Master Number 33 is considered the Master Teacher and is said to be the most spiritually evolved of the Master Numbers. It boosts the powers of the numbers that came before it to new heights, and possesses the ability to bestow knowledge and truth on to others.
Number 6 influences Master Number 33 with vibrations of humility, nurturing, and compassion. Master Number 33 is the higher vibration of Life Path Number 6 and is extremely rare.
Master Number 33 takes the strengths that both 11 and 22 possess, only to store them in one.
There is debate over whether doubled numbers above 33 are Master Life Path numbers. I believe that if your birthday digits add up to a doubled number between 44 and 99 that they are “Master numbers”, as explored by “True Numerology.”
Below are some examples of birth dates whereby adding up the digits gives a total of 44. Note that the format is day-month-year.
16–9–1999 — — 1 + 6 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 9 = 44
25–5–1999
19–6–1999
17–9–1989
19–7–1989
19–8–1979
18–9–1979
19–9–1969
How do you work with your Life Path Number?
Your Life Path Number belongs to you. You may be thinking “I’m not the only one with this Life Path Number” and you are correct. But that does not detract from the facts that there are billions of people on Earth and there are 12 different agreed upon Life Path Numbers.
Calculate the Life Path Numbers of your children, partner, parents, or of any significant people in your life. Do you all have the same Life Path Number?
The diagram below shows the percentages of people born between 1900 and 2020 with the different Life Path Numbers up to 33.

Recall that your Life Path number represents who you are at your core — the person you are spending this lifetime learning to become. Your Life Path Number describes the direction of your journey through Life.
Whilst your Life Path Number describes the direction of your journey through life, and your Expression Number reveals your gifts, talents and unique offerings to the world, the Soul Urge Number connects you with your true fulfillment.
Your Life Path Number is a roadmap for your life, while your Soul Urge number (sometimes called your Heart’s Desire Number) represents the routes or experiences that give you a sense of self-worth that satisfies the traveling of your Soul’s roadmap.
Your Soul Urge number may be the same as your Life Path Number. If not, it is a bridge to your roadmap. It’s energy is the “transport” that takes you through your roadmap.
Your “roadmap for life” or your Life Path Number shows you the main types of challenges, lessons, and experiences that you face as a spark of Source in human form. It’s about the energy or frequency that you bring into the world.
For example, someone with number one as a Life Path Number can be comfortable with the fact that he or she is energetically tuned to be a leader, independent, and driven. Their roadmap is to be of service to all through leadership, independent decisions, ambition, drive, enthusiasm, and accomplishment.
Knowing that she has this Life Path Number will show her that it’s her blueprint to be this energy. And perhaps this knowledge will help the person with a Life Path Number of one to not hide or push away these tendencies, e.g. believing them to be “not accepted” or “not liked” by parts of society.
You should accept the energy of your Life Path Number because it is intrinsic to you.
In the example above, the person with a Life Path Number of 1 may have a Soul Urge number of 7 which shows a drive to find answers to deep and meaningful questions. Asking these questions is a bridge to her best using her intrinsic qualities, as described above.
In this example, the Number One’s roadmap is to look for and engage in challenges and experiences in work and life that give her the opportunities to be a leader and to use her strength, ambition, decisiveness, and courage to move forward. She does this through asking meaningful questions and through deep exploration.
How my special number ignites me

My Life Path Number is 33. Less than one percent of the birth dates between 1900 and 2020 add up to Master Number 33 (as shown in the table above).
I am always saying that “my mission is to be of service to God and humanity.”
By “God” I mean Source, the Unified Field of Creation, which I also call “One Unity Consciousness Divine Love.” By “humanity” I mean every man, woman and child on Earth.
Psychic Lilly’s description of someone with Life Path Number 33 describes me one-hundred percent. Along my “travels” or experiences, many people have commented that I would be a good teacher.
People teach others by sharing their lived experiences and applied knowledge and by being good role models. I once enrolled in a secondary education teaching course and have done voluntary teaching of English.
My love of data, research, and writing is used to write guidelines on working with software and online platforms, in order to help people. For example, I have written a comprehensive guide on how Mastodon works.
I am using my Life Path Number 33 to remind me daily that in my unique ways I am on the journey back to Source as a “master teacher” to help humanity ascend to a higher spiritual level.
I have launched my own “spirituality tool-kit” to carve out pathways for people to connect to their Soul, Self, and Source; the latter which embraces Angels and Spirit Guides.
I love to support and uplift others, but my altruistic tendency does not mean that I am vulnerable and can be taken advantage of.
I have been through many sorts of abusive and challenging experiences during my life, which have strengthened my boundaries through transmuting the energy of these experiences.
Those with a Life Path Number of Master Number 33 make up around 0.695 percent of the 43,829 days between the beginning of the year 1900 and the 1st of January 2020. That is, there are 304 days out of approximately 44,000 days or 120 years on which the people born on one of those days has a Life Path Number of 33.
Knowing that I hold the Master Teacher energy fuels me with the motivation and information to keep doing what comes to me naturally. And that is “teaching” and facilitating learning and teaching, while knowing that the teacher and the taught together create the “teaching.”
The Life Path number represents who one is at birth and the inborn traits that they will take with them throughout life.
Let your Life Path Number ignite your Life and tell you what unique energy you bring to this world. You are “special” because of your combination of life path energy or frequency and the energies of all your components.
Getting the most out of the energy represented by your life path number means living it: Live your life the best you can, using your personal preferences and your life path number as guides.

My life path number is 7. I think my “soul urge” is 4 and the master number is 11 and I have to go back and look at the others. Great information. Thank you for the article 🤗💕🙏
