“You are not a mortal body but an immortal soul.”
Soul is a word used to translate the Greek term (psychē), meaning “life, spirit, consciousness”. The Greek verb, “breath of life,” from which the word derives means “to cool, to blow”. It therefore refers to the vital breath, the animating principle in humans and other animals (the Latin term for the “breath of life” being anima, from which the word “animal” is derived).
Kinship with All Life
In simplest terms, a Soul is a part or a stream of Eternal Consciousness, Intelligence, and Will (or of Source, God, the Creator, etc.) that animates matter and living organisms and is thus eternal.
Regarding Homo sapiens or Human Beings, a Soul is an intermediary or bridge between the human Self and Source or God.
The purpose of the Soul is to bring in light or high frequency consciousness or information into the “lower” mind or denser energy bodies. This moderates or balances the ego (the drive and thus the will for self-satisfaction) and helps refine the personality (character traits) of human beings, so that they can best work toward the common good.
You might ask does a dog have a Soul? What about a Butterfly or an Ant? Do they have Souls?
Can a rock or a tree have a Soul?
The answers depend upon who you ask. Since you’re asking me, my answer is that yes, a dog, a butterfly, and an ant has a Soul.
What we do with our Souls is the million dollar question.
I don’t know whether each house fly has its own personality, but if flies have souls, their souls will be helping them with their purpose. As David Attenborough shows us, everything has its place in the ecology of the world. Flies clean up waste and decay, helping to keep the land clean.
I believe that Source consciousness animates all matter, including plants and minerals.
Some people believe that plants can’t have a soul because they don’t have a nervous system. They equate having a “mind” (mental functioning) with having a soul.
However, scientists have found amazing things about plants actively caring for each other, which is evidence of plants having some sort of consciousness. If a Soul is a force that gives a living organism light codes or information to carry out its function or purpose well, then perhaps plants do have souls.
There is said to exist an infinite, endless and eternal Being or Consciousness, which I call Source and others call God. It is inherently non-dual, with no subject (doing) and no object (what’s been done to). It exists as one pure united consciousness.
This is “divine” intelligence/consciousness, will (intention) and power.
To experience its full potential, this infinite Being or field of Consciousness split into parts.
Dividing or differentiating itself enables it to know itself as reflections or parts of itself. Re-unifying itself is God’s (or Source’s) purpose.
From formlessness, differentiated form comes forth as streams or bodies or fields of energy — and with it, duality and subject and object. We have this and that, here and there. We have Body and Soul, and Night and Day and Good and Bad.
Despite the polarity (the tension of duality), everything comes from the Source or “God.” This is Source Consciousness or Energy expressing itself in facets that may appear as opposites, complements, or dualities.
The Descent of the Soul
Some say that Source first split into Monads or self-similar parts. Monads are the highest frequency streams of Consciousness from God or Source. These Monads created Souls to gain experience working with the elements (Earth, Air, Fire, and Water) and to experience being in form.
Energy is the life force that flows through all things. It is the source of our power and the key to creating anything we desire. Frequency is the rate at which energy vibrates.
Monads are said to be spheres of high frequency. They create or manifest facets or parts of themselves at different levels of frequency, from high to low. Higher frequency beings or energies have a “dimensional” awareness related to their quality or nature within that band of frequency.
They may interact with energies or entities in lower bands of frequency, but only to a point. The entity in the lower band needs to raise its frequency to match the frequency of the higher band or dimension.
Souls are said to descend into human and other forms through different dimensions of awareness or energetic gateways or portals or bands of frequency and awareness.
Simone Matthews, of Universal Lifetools, says that a human Soul descends (from a Monad) from the 8th Dimension of awareness and experience, being the Centre of the Milky Way Galaxy (Galactic Consciousness) into the 7th Dimension, via the Sirius constellation (Soul Consciousness), into the 6th Dimension, via the Pleiades constellation (Unity Consciousness), and into the 5th Dimension, the “Soul Star” level of vibration on Earth (Mental or Causal Awareness).
The heart chambers of a human being are first to form. The Soul comes into the human fetus around 21 days after conception through an energy centre above the head and projects an octahedral or diamond shaped field of light and energy (a holographic image) from the heart.
The diamond shaped field of light and energy creates the aura and the chakras through the separation and reconfiguration of particles or sub-atomic elements (the building blocks of atoms).

The aura consists of 7 intermingling layers or types of subtle (invisible) energy/frequency. One of these, the etheric aura body, is the template for the physical form to take shape.
There are said to be 7 major chakras. Chakras are energy centres or spheres/balls of energy aligned along the front and back of the body, from tail-bone to the top of the head.
When clear and activated, they are said to spin and create “funnels” / vortexes that pull energy into the subtle and physical bodies, and process subtle energy frequencies, to maintain the functioning of the body and its subtle energy systems.
The chakras are one system of many energy systems related to a human being. Energy Anatomy theories by energy medicine practitioners such as Donna Eden and Prune Harris describe these systems.
Chakras energize (distribute certain frequencies for) the many functions of the physical body and non-physical body. I have seen my etheric aura, one of my chakras and other people’s auras with my “inner sight” (i.e. via a “sixth sense”).
What it means to be a Soul
Just because there’s no physical evidence of Souls, doesn’t mean that they don’t exist. You can’t see oxygen in the air, but you’re told that it exists. Once upon a time, people thought that the Earth was flat, then they found that it is round.
Source or Spirit or God seeks to unify its parts at all levels. The purpose or the function of the Soul is to connect us to Source. The Soul is also called the Higher Self, the Higher Mind, Atman, or the Angelic Twin.
Some people believe that some of us make up or pretend that we have Souls in order to console ourselves that a part of us will live forever.
However, there is evidence that living things do have souls. People who have had close calls have come back to life and recounted stories about life reviews and qualities of being a Soul, as described in Tricia McCannon’s book, “The Angelic Origins of the Soul: Discovering your Divine Purpose.”
A Monad is a spark of the One Consciousness that creates form and imbues those forms with Souls.
God or the Source is the immaterial dimension that exists as an energetic core of light and sound with consciousness. It embeds all conscious energetic Souls as separate unique individual experiences.
A Soul is a unique experience of God or Source. Every human being, no matter how bad he/she may be or seem to be has a Soul. But people confuse having a Soul with being spiritual.
We are all spiritual forms by way of being from one Great Spirit. However, that doesn’t mean all humans act spiritually. People get hung up on being Self, or being in dense matter form. Many people believe that their physical bodies and their minds are all that there is.
But sometimes people feel their connection to their Soul or to Source in moments of illumination. We have not completely forgotten our Soul and Spirit natures.
Imagine Source as a never-ending energy supply of positive energy and that you have an electrical cable with a plug running from your physical body all the way to Source energy and plugged in.
But the energy or power that actually feeds into the Self can be restricted or of poor quality because of a faulty connection or a loose connection.
Imagining a tube or a ribbon of pure white light from the Cosmos or Source entering into your body through your Soul Star Chakra, an energy centre a couple of feet above your head, helps to create a strong Self-Source connection.
Let the Source energy of potential and unity flow through your entire body, cleansing your subtle energy bodies or fields of stuck or dense energies. See or imagine this beautiful, scintillating white light permeating your physical body and bringing energy to the trillions of atoms in the trillions of cells that make up your form, cleaning, balancing and refreshing your cells, tissues, and organs.
If being spiritual means that you genuinely care for and support another being or Earth, well then, look around you and you can find many animal companions that are spiritual.
Don’t confuse having different mental capacities with having or not having a Soul. I believe that non-human animals have got Souls. I have been visited by animals after they have crossed over. I have felt their energy, and many others have sensed living beings after their physical bodies have gone.
Some people have reported seeing the Soul of an animal leave its body and disappear as it returns to the Monad or to Source.
An Earth-bound spirit (or ghost) is different to a Soul. This is a Soul that is trapped in the astral realm or plane of consciousness.
The astral body of the aura is the plane of feelings, senses, memories, and desire.
When a person sheds its physical body unprepared, the Soul doesn’t realize it is disconnected. It imparts its energetic frequency upon Earth until it realizes it has to journey to the higher realms of consciousness or is helped to do so.
Every Soul has soul challenges, of which each person or animal lives through differently and with varying impacts on their lives and on the world at large. Our common purpose or goal as human beings is to find and live ways of living together in unity.
Each Soul has an Avatar or an embodiment as a human being with ego, personality, and desires. This is the Self that has its own positive values, such as valuing teaching, independence, authenticity, respect, love, compassion, community, honesty, harmony, leadership, openness, and learning.
By connecting Self to Source via the Soul, human beings can better learn how to live their own values, thus offering how and why they are implemented to those who resonate with their teachings. We learn things explicitly and implicitly.
With the great power of being in human form with a large and complex mental capacity and absolute free-will to think what we like and act upon that, as we can, comes great responsibility.
When we achieve union or oneness with Source or God via our Souls and Monads, there is an expansion of our individual awareness. When you sense or feel a consciousness much greater than your own or have a flash or sense of recognition of being connected to a whole, you are connecting to your Soul.
This is when the puzzle pieces fall into place. One day we will realize that we are spirit and that we are Souls incarnated into physical forms, and that we can be both human and a Soul at the same time.
This true connection is experienced when we accept that, as Souls, we chose to descend into human form, for the experience of creating and living new patterns of living together well.
We can have a zoomed out view or perspective, realizing that every person has human traits, needs, and desires in common, as well as individual desires. As Souls, we can dissolve polarity or the clash of dualities. We do this by Soul awareness, or letting our Souls guide our thoughts, decisions, and actions as helpful or resourceful movements of energy or actions.
Every human being is both an energy form contained within a body, with a mental processing that creates her or his own unique thoughts and beliefs, which ripples out into feelings and emotions.
Your thoughts are energetic forms, as are your feelings. Thoughts create feelings and emotions. And your baseline state or mood, e.g. calm, angry, frustrated, or happy (which may, at the foundation or bottom line, come from past adverse experiences, which you need to resolve) comes from your thoughts and the internal images and internal talk they produce.
To truly live your positive values, as much as possible, connecting to your Soul will help you challenge and refine your habitual thoughts and thus your actions. The ripple effect means that the outer results in the world of more enlightened collective actions on Earth will co-create more balance or unity across the globe.
Your Soul channels high-frequency information into your mind that’s contained within your brain and into your energy fields. It’s information that is for the good of all, not just for a select few. It’s “divine” information or data, impulses, and intuition from the one Source. This is spiritual energy that helps us be human in terms of “higher thoughts” and actions that truly support ourselves, our loved ones and planet Earth.
Individual Souls are said to have individual life purposes and themes. The life purpose is to instill or embody your chosen positive values and the theme is the human system or way/mode of operating used to live and share your values. For example, you could be a teacher (theme) illustrating the connection between Soul, Source and Self (with the life purpose of teaching this). A Soul can have many life purposes.
Regarding the life purposes of some animals and plants, and the question should we harm any Souls, consider that within the Cosmic times of NOW, some plants and animals have the purpose of being consumed for the nourishment of others. But that can change. Human beings have also distorted these purposes, without respect for the natural order.
We all have common values as life purposes, such as respect, understanding, acceptance, appreciation, sharing, discernment, forgiveness, spiritual growth, positive collaboration, self-reflection, and love.
Where is the Soul located?
The Soul is both localized and non-localized. It’s said to be in the physical heart and in the Higher Mind. Some people report that when they think with their “Higher Mind” that they sense the information coming from a place just above or behind their head. This is because the Soul Star Chakra or Energy Centre is located just above the head. It channels guidance, inspiration, and information (Source frequency or consciousness) from the Soul into the brain and around the body.
When you focus on feeling an expanded consciousness or awareness and actually sense it, your Soul can connect with or reach other Consciousness, from other living beings and over great distances and time.
Some say that the Soul is also located in the 5th, 6th, and 7th layers of the aura. These layers are referred to by some people as the Karmic Body, the Angelic or Buddhic Body and the Ketheric Body. For more information, click here.
Other people call the upper 3 planes or layers of the aura, the Etheric Template, the Celestial Body, and the Causal Body or the Ketheric Body. There are many different labels or words to identify the auric bodies, i.e. the planes or layers of the energetic aura.
Others say that the pineal gland, which is located in your brain and produces and releases melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate sleep and wakefulness cycles, is the Seat of the Soul. This small gland is activated by sunlight, cosmic light energy and other light. It’s placement is in alignment with the centre of the eyebrows, the location of your Brow Chakra or Third Eye Chakra.
A bindi, worn in Hindu, Buddhist, and other dominant Southeast Asian religions, is a small red dot applied on the forehead between the eyebrows using a red paste. The red dot is intended to honor the “third eye”, or the seat of perception located between one’s eyebrows.
This seat of perception corresponds to the Brow Chakra, also called the Anja Chakra. Its attributes are “higher” intelligence, intuition, insight, and self-knowledge, all Soul qualities.
Recall that your Soul birthed into your energy field by the Soul Star Chakra or Energy Centre above your head. This Chakra receives pure white light energy or high frequency / consciousness from the Cosmos/Creator/God/Source.
This frequency, if we allow it to do so, flows into and within and around our physical bodies.
The Soul is also directly and always connected to Spirit (the Monad), a divine initial spark from God or Source. So we can say that the Soul is both close by, above our heads, around and within us, and can expand everywhere else too.
However, sadly, many of us hardly feel this connection because, as Souls and Spirit, we chose to try disconnecting ourselves from Source to see how we would manage.
Why is it Difficult to be a Soul?
It’s hard for human beings to reconcile the Soul with the Human Body or Self.
This is because upon the Soul birthing into the physical human form, the SELF (i.e. that part of you comprising your physical body and “lower” mind) relinquishes or gives up full remembrance of your true Self. This is so that your Soul can have as complete an experience in human form, as possible.
Also, it’s hard to be a spiritual being and a Soul in human form because the Human Ego and the Human Soul have such different goals or aims.
While the Soul is the unifying force of the human being, as a part of one great spark of the Divine (i.e. from a Monad which is from Source or God or the Creator), the Ego seeks personal satisfaction and the Personality seeks materiality or material things as a way of connecting to things.
Human beings have “ego,” which is needed to make wise choices for physical self-care and for mental and emotional well-being. The trick is to be both human and spiritual at the same time, with balance between the two.
However, when this Ego is too big literally, we become fixated upon our own narrow world-views.
The inflated Ego wants you to feel satisfied, embracing thinking and feeling that you are always or mostly always right and therefore you are justified doing what you do for your own and a few other people’s sakes sometimes.
But if people constantly hurt or ridicule someone or something, this attitude negatively affects things collectively, because we are entirely interdependent.
When we forget that we have the inner resources or the ability from Source or God to choose every moment either as a caring or mature, unifying experience or as an experience of disunity, division is caused.
People may think that such friction is good and raises awareness or debate and change, but there are limits. This doesn’t mean that we have to agree with everyone or smile at everyone we meet, or never raise our voice or use strong words with some people.
It means we need to recognize the Ego for what it is, a tool of the Soul to learn in human form how to live together well.
And living from the Soul, that aspect of us that seeks to co-create peace, harmony and caring, requires moment to moment self-awareness, not only of what one is doing, but significantly of WHY a person is doing WHAT and awareness of WHAT the results are.
Every human being must have awareness/understanding of the reasons for the exact experience that a person chooses.
Life is always giving us opportunities to review our internal world, i.e. our thoughts and feelings about a person or a situation, sometimes as a mirror of what we don’t like about ourselves.
Our purposes as Homo sapiens or human beings is to identify and recognize new ways (patterns, behaviours, actions, and systems) of living together in harmony, respecting Earth.
And as Souls in matter form we best do this by striving to genuinely interact with everyone and everything in genuinely constructive ways, i.e. in helpful or resourceful ways.
We can agree to disagree, with maturity or with Soul. And this means being polite and thus helpful if you disagree with someone or something.
Some people are seen or perceived to be “soul-less.” This may be because they have very little connection to Soul and Source. But in the long term or long view, nobody is irredeemable.
Your Soul can help you change your narrative or the stories that you tell yourself, that block you from making good use of what you experience as a human being.
“Do to others as you would have them do unto you” is truly a purpose of the Soul.
This blog, “Soul Connexions” seeks to share my learned knowledge and my personal experiences, in order that the Self teams up with Source via the Soul, for the happiness and good health of the Self, and in turn for the well-being of all.
One way that you might like to try to start strengthening your connection to Soul is to say the following mantra out loud or to yourself upon waking or going to sleep.
I am the Monad, I am the Soul, I am the Light Divine, I am Love, I am Will, I am Fixed Design.
This is explained below. It is an invocation of the Soul, taught by Tibetan master, Djwhal Kuhl, through Alice Bailey.
“I am the Monad:” I am a spark of God.
“I am the Soul :” I am an individualized stream of One Consciousness, experiencing form.
“I am the Light Divine:” The bottom line is that, even as a physical form, I am made up of light and sound and consciousness from Source or the One Consciousness.
“I am Love:” Source seeks unity or living one vibrational energy (LOVE).
“I am will:” I am a part of the Will or intention of Source/God that seeks to express and know itself and harmonize itself in forms.
“I am Fixed Design:” My fixed nature is that I am a part of Source/God.
You could also say one of the following to remind yourself that you are a Soul.
“I am my Higher Self.”
“I am my Wider Self.”
“I am One with the I AM presence of Mother/Father God”
How do I Know All This?
I know little of the vast amount of what there is to “know” because I am constrained to a human being’s “lower mental processes” and I comprehend knowledge from my direct human experiences and Soul experiences.
However, over my 61 years of life on Earth I have come across information from a multitude of sources that encompasses all that I have written.
I believe that we all have intuition or psychic senses, that come from the Soul; and I have used this extra-sensory perception and my rational mind to find, weave, refine, question, answer, detail, and summarize what I perceive or agree with as the most likely possibility.
One of the wonders of being a Soul is that such incarnation permits an individual physical form, a human being, to make sense of things her or his way.
It is when we each share what we uniquely know or experience, that is helpful, with respect, that the world can move on — fit for the purpose of accommodating peaceful Souls and Spirit in form.
I have taken what resonates with me or agrees with me, over six decades, and what I feel that my Soul has taken me to, to form my own viewpoints or thoughts about the Soul.
How do you know that you are human? It’s because it’s a word that conveniently labels or describes you, to facilitate communication, understanding and interaction.
But what does it mean to be human and what is a Soul, if there is such a thing as a Soul?
That’s for you to decide, and I am just a messenger bringing to you possibilities.
Content is not always “King.” Impact is “King,” so let’s bring about the most helpful impacts for Earth and all on Earth.
Namaste , I see the Divine in you.
